Salary: £13.50 per hour + service charge (circa £8000 per annum) + live in accommodation.

The Bull is a well-loved village pub located in the heart of Watton-at-Stone, proudly operated by the current family owners for the past 14 years. With a loyal local following and a reputation for serving high-quality fresh food, we are committed to excellent service and a warm, community-focused atmosphere. Our sister pub, The White Horse in Hertingfordbury, is also overseen by our Executive Chef, who leads both kitchens with a passion for seasonal, freshly prepared dishes.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Sous Chef who is ready for a new challenge and eager to work directly under an Executive Chef. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong fresh food experience who wants to develop further, refine their craft, and grow within a supportive, professional kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities

· Assist in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of fresh menu dishes to a high standard.

· Work closely with the Executive Chef to execute menu vision and maintain consistency.

We are recruiting for The Bull and seeking a Sous Chef to support our Head Chef with overseeing our small, close-knit brigade. As a Sous Chef you will need to be a real leader. Having some experience in dealing with staff to help with the management of a kitchen team with various levels of skills and capabilities. You will be confident with overseeing of the kitchen, from maintaining supplier relationships, managing food costs, assisting with rotas to understanding health and safety regulations.

What We Offer:
Alongside the Head Chef, you will have the autonomy to create your own dishes and have input into the menu. You will also cook most dishes in-house. You should consider yourself to be a natural leader, as having an eye for detail and a real passion for producing quality fresh food. You will need to be hands-on with great communication skills.

Job Duties:

  • Prepare all food items as directed in a sanitary and timely manner

  • Follow recipes and presentation specifications

  • Operate in a small kitchen safely and efficiently

  • Maintain a clean working station whilst adhering to health & safety standards

  • Assist with the cleaning and organisation of the kitchen and kitchen equipment

  • Restock items as needed throughout the shift

  • Adhere to all food hygiene & safety standard

  • Running the kitchen when the current head chef is absent.

FOH SUPERVISOR

Job Summary
The Front of House Supervisor plays a vital role in ensuring a seamless and exceptional dining experience for our guests. This position involves supporting the general manager overseeing the daily operations of the front of house, managing staff, and ensuring high standards of hospitality and service. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a passion for the culinary arts, with experience in both restaurant and hospitality settings.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of front of house staff, ensuring efficient service delivery.

  • Train and mentor team members customer service excellence.

  • Maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene in accordance with health regulations.

  • Handle guest inquiries, complaints, and feedback professionally to enhance customer satisfaction.

  • Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure timely food production and presentation.

  • Assist in overseeing barista operations, ensuring quality beverage preparation.

  • Conduct regular performance evaluations for team members to foster development and growth.

Skills

  • Proven supervising experience in a restaurant or hospitality environment.

  • Strong team management skills with the ability to lead by example.

  • Culinary experience with knowledge of food preparation and production techniques.

  • Familiarity with food safety regulations and best practices.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with guests and staff.

  • Previous experience in serving roles within a restaurant or hotel setting is highly desirable.

  • Leadership qualities that inspire teamwork and foster a positive work atmosphere.

FOH STAFF

Job Description:

We are a family run pub set in the pretty village of Watton at Stone in rural Hertfordshire. We are looking to recruit enthusiastic and hard working front of house and bar staff to join our friendly and social team. Ideal candidates will have some experience in hospitality, be flexible with shift patterns and bring a great ‘can-do’ attitude to our team. We are ideally looking for staff over the age of 18, but previous experience will we taken into consideration. Hours can vary from 3-5 shifts a week, and will include evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

All candidates must be able to work weekends, evenings and bank holidays.
